$609.03 and Counting: May Giveback Update

You know what I love about this thing we’ve built? We’re actually doing something.

In May, Honorguard raised $101 to support veterans and fight the mental health crisis. That brings our total this year to $609.03.

Yeah, it’s not a million dollars. But it’s real. It’s money moving out of our hands and into the hands of people who are doing the work. People saving lives.

Where the Money Went

We split May’s giveback between two incredible orgs:

  • Paws of Honor – $21 went to help retired law enforcement and military working dogs through our Honduras Single Origin coffee. We donate 50% of the profit from that roast. These dogs served hard, and they deserve peace in retirement.

  • The Heavy Hitters Project – $80 sent their way. I picked them because they’re straight-up effective. They’ve helped prevent at least 13 suicides since January. That number’s probably even higher if you count the ones we’ll never hear about. I’ve personally leaned on this group when I was in a rough place, so I know exactly how powerful their peer support network is.

So, Where Are the Service Dogs?

I know a lot of folks are waiting for this. We’ve been talking about the service dog program for a while now. The good news is: we’re close.

We’ve got two badass trainers on standby. The bones are built. What’s left is the boring stuff—contracts, policies, applications. All the behind-the-scenes work to make sure this is done right and protects everyone involved. I’ve got a meeting this Sunday to get most of that finalized. Once that’s locked? We’re go.

But I also need to fix something I got wrong earlier. I said it would take 100 bags of coffee to fund a month of training. That was optimistic.

The real number is 250 bags = 1 month of training.

Here’s where we’re at now:

  • 16 monthly subscribers (bless every single one of you)

  • 38 bags sold in May outside subscriptions

That puts us about 196 bags short of being able to fund our first veteran’s training each month. And this isn’t something we can do halfway. Once we start, we’ve got to be able to finish it.

Here’s How You Can Help

If you’re low on beans or have been thinking about trying a new roast, now’s the time. Every single bag gets us closer. Subscriptions help the most because they give us consistency, but one-time orders are still a huge help.

I’m hyped up on a few cups of Chief Hutch Honduras this morning, and maybe I’m a little long-winded, but this stuff matters to me.

You might just see dollar amounts. I get to see the people behind those numbers. The impact. The gratitude. The hope.

And that’s all because of you.
