The Story Behind This Lot

The Women Who Changed Everything

In 2004, 464 female coffee producers in northern Peru did
something that had never been done before. They formed their own
cooperative — CECANOR — and created the Café Femenino program, the first
of its kind in the world.

Women had always been essential to coffee production here. They
planted, harvested, sorted, and dried — every step of the work that
makes a great cup possible. But the money, the contracts, the land
rights? Those stayed with the men. Café Femenino was built to change
that equation permanently.

Today, the women of CECANOR don't just produce coffee. They own
the program. They run the books. They negotiate the terms. And they're
raising the next generation of daughters with the expectation that
leadership is their birthright — not something to be earned through
someone else's permission.

"The women of CECANOR are proud to be the
originators of the Café Femenino concept — and proud to instill in their
daughters the expectation that they will grow up to become leaders in
their community."

A balanced medium with bright acidity and structured sweetness — it
performs across methods. The citrus opens up beautifully as it cools, so
don't rush it.

What your bag funds

Every Rare Ground subscription goes toward placing trained service
dogs with veterans in the Treasure Valley. Not a portion. Not after
overhead. The whole point.

You're not a customer. You're 1 subscriber of 1,000 that make
healing veterans possible. The coffee is exceptional because it has to
be — but the reason it exists is to fund what comes after the cup.

The women of CECANOR built something that changed the power
structure in their community. We're working to do the same for veterans
in ours. Different mission, same conviction.
